It’s been a little while since my last update, so I wanted to touch base with you, my awesome readers, about what I’ve been doing (outside writing blog posts) and let you know what I have planned for the rest of this year.
I spoke about this in my last update post, but the project I’m working on right now is currently titled Nine Tails, and it is an urban fantasy based on Korean mythology and folklore. It follows three protagonists: a fairy woman trying to find her missing sister, a young man who finds a magical book, and the titular nine-tailed shapeshifting fox spirit who wants to become human. The series will be a trilogy, but each book will also be serialized and released as five separate episodes. This format allows me to cater to my short story writing roots while putting together a larger project. We’ll see how it works.
I’m planning to launch the first book of this series in October, and the episodes will be released over the course of that month and into November. The second book should be ready to launch in April, and moving forward I hope to stick to an October and April release schedule for future works. However, if I stumble onto a project that needs more time to incubate, then I may take some time off to make sure it’s being put together properly.
Starting next week I will be writing some posts that provide background on Nine Tails. I know a lot of people are not overly familiar with Korean folklore. Even though it’s part of my ancestry, it’s not something I knew much about myself, and part of the fun of this project was being able to study part of my heritage that I’m not very connected with in many ways. To help familiarize people (and hopefully build hype for the book), I’ll be sharing some of the Korean folktales that inspired the work and putting together some profiles on the characters, creatures, and locations present in the story.
I will also be continuing to put together writing and marketing advice articles. It’s possible that the plan I’ve outlined above will change, but I’m going to do my best to stick to it, and I’ll be posting more about the story as we get closer to launch. In the meantime, I’ll just be writing…
